Radical Architecture of the Future

Author

An important and fascinating collection of original projects by unique thinkers in the world of architecture and spatial design. Architectural practice today goes far beyond the design and construction of buildings — the most exciting, forward-thinking architecture is also found in digital landscapes, art, apps, films, installations, and virtual reality. This remarkable book features projects — surprising, beautiful, outrageous, and sometimes even frightening — that break rules and shatter boundaries. In this timely book, the work of award-winning architects, designers, artists, photographers, writers, filmmakers, and researchers — all of whom synthesize and reflect our spatial environments — comes together for the first time. Activating Sculpture

Editor, 2017 Roof Garden Commission Catalogue

This illustrated book is the fifth edition in a series that documents and contextualizes The Met’s annual rooftop commissions. As curator of the exhibition, the introductory essay explores the conceptual framework that informs Villar Rojas’s remarkable commission as well as his interventions around the world. While exploring the Museum, Villar Rojas took thousands of photographs of objects and moments of interest. A selection of these images is featured here alongside the artist’s commentary, offering a unique visual diary of Villar Rojas’s thought process as he developed this arresting installation.

Hacked Milan

Curator, La Rinascente

Taking place inside La Rinascente shopping centre, HACKED was conceived to provide a stage for designers whose work exists outside of conventional exhibition-object parameters and whose ideas and practice cross various disciplines. It operated through a week of back-t0-back experimental performances with young and emerging designers who used new design techniques and methodologies. The events ranged from events demonstrating how to make your own Large Hadron Collider by Super Collider, a race between Dominic Wilcox and a 3D printer, Lo-Fi 3D printing by Something & Son, the sounds of Milan through Foley art and Nelly Ben Hayoun, and downloadable buildings with the WikiHouse team.     .

An Unstable Home

Editor, 2016 Roof Garden Commission Catalogue

Turner Prize–nominated British artist Cornelia Parker (b. 1956) is well known for her large-scale, site-specific installations.  Her work has been featured in many solo exhibitions and is included in collections around the world.  Often composed of ordinary objects, her installations make the familiar extraordinary, whimsical, and even poignant. Her work for the 2016 Roof Garden Commission at the Metropolitan Museum, documented here, merges two iconic examples of American architecture: the red barn and the infamous mansion on a hill from Alfred Hitchcock’s movie Psycho – itself inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper. The resulting piece is brilliantly allusive, exploring the tension between the tropes represented by these two cultural symbols. This slim volume includes an interview with the artist in which she eloquently illuminates her work and influences.

Phantom: Mies as Rendered Society

Mies van Der Rohe Pavilion

A catalogue essay reflecting on Andrés Jacque / Office for Political Innovation's provocative installation in the Barcelona Pavilion. The project takes place in the 1980s reproduction of Mies' most famous work, and the text examines the relationship between idol-worship, architecture and reality, and the ubiquitous modernist state of cleanliness.
